Program Details
The internship is based at the UNICEF Office of Strategy and Evidence – Innocenti in Florence. Interns will work full-time or part-time (5 days a week, 8 hours per day) and contribute to data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting on issues affecting children globally. The work involves sectoral and cross-sectoral analysis, utilizing various data sources and advanced techniques such as data visualization and machine learning. The internship may be on-site, remote, or hybrid, depending on circumstances.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Open to international students from all backgrounds, with preference for those from indigenous/low-income backgrounds and programme countries
- Age: No specific age limit, but must be enrolled in or recently graduated (within one year) from a relevant graduate program
- Background: Relevant fields include Demographics, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Psychology, Education, Nutrition, Public Health, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, Data Science, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related disciplines
- Requirements:
- Strong academic record or reference letter from an academic supervisor
- Excellent English communication skills (knowledge of other UN languages is an asset)
- Proficiency in Excel, statistical software (Stata, SPSS, R), or qualitative data coding software (Nvivo, Atlas TI)
- Completed courses or certifications in data engineering, data visualization, or advanced statistical methods
- No immediate relatives working at UNICEF or in the line of authority
