Program Details
Selected Young Professionals will be assigned to a specific division within the WTO Secretariat, based on organizational needs and the candidate’s areas of interest. Participants can indicate up to three preferred areas of WTO work, such as Accessions, Agriculture, Digital Trade, Dispute Settlement, Economic Research, Intellectual Property, Trade and Environment, and more. The program is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge of WTO operations and international trade issues, with the aim of increasing representation from underrepresented member countries in the WTO and other international organizations.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Open to nationals of WTO member countries, with preference for those from underrepresented, developing, and least developed countries (see full list in the official announcement)
- Age: Up to 32 years old as of 1 January 2027
- Background: Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in economics, international relations, law, environmental studies, or other trade-related fields
- Requirements:
- At least two years of relevant professional experience
- General knowledge of the WTO’s work
- Technical expertise in one or more relevant areas
- Excellent drafting skills in English; knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
- Strong motivation and commitment to international trade and the multilateral trading system
- Applications must include a cover letter in English, specifying up to three preferred areas of work
