The Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowships are open to all engineering disciplines, broadly defined. Eligible fields include Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Software Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Manufacturing and Production Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Structural Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, and any other engineering-related field.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Open to applicants of all nationalities
- Age: No age restrictions
- Background: Applicants must have been awarded their PhD (or received unconditional approval) no more than four years before 25 June 2026. A grace period of up to six months is allowed, with additional consideration for extenuating circumstances such as parental or sick leave.
- Requirements:
- Research project must be in an engineering subject area
- Fellowship must be hosted at a UK university or research organization eligible for UKRI funding
- Host institution must confirm support equivalent to a permanent employee
- Full-time or part-time (minimum 50%) commitment is allowed
